Locate & Message Me
Follow my progress and message me!
Thanks to the wonders of satellite technology and my Garmin inReach device, I will never be completely offline, even while outside cell phone range. Family and close friends can track my progress along the route and message me.
I genuinely appreciate receiving messages, but please note the following:
- Keep messages short. Messages longer than 160 characters will be batched and might not arrive in sequence.
- In order to preserve battery life, I will only update my position 2-3 times a day. I will respond to messages, time permitting, at most once a day, and will prioritize urgent messages. My cell phone will be in airplane mode for the most part, even when I do have a signal.
- A lack of response or recent position update does NOT indicate that I am in danger. Please read this important article for some context on the drawbacks of satellite messengers. They often cause unnecessary angst and concern.
- My Garmin inReach satellite messenger includes an SOS feature which allows me to summon help anywhere and anytime. Should I ever be in trouble, that will the primary channel I will use for assistance.

Technology is fantastic, but I’m looking forward to a wilderness experience. In order to limit the number of messages that I receive and maintain privacy, I have chosen to restrict communication and geo-localization features to family and close friends. If you don’t have access, you can follow me on Instagram! I will post pictures on a regular basis and look forward to your comments! Thanks for your interest.
